Former Kansas State and Wichita Northwest star Chris Harper was signed by the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, according to CSNBayArea.com. Harper, a fourth-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks in April, was cut by Seattle on Saturday after an unimpressive preseason plagued by dropped passes, including a sure touchdown in the Seahawks’ final preseason game against Oakland.
Seattle placed Harper on the practice squad after releasing him, but teams can sign players off other teams’ practice squads as long as they put them on their 53-man roster. Harper caught 57 passes for 848 yards for K-State last season in helping lead the Wildcats to a share of the Big 12 championship, and becomes the second wide receiver with ties to Kansas on the 49ers’ roster along with Coffeyville Community College product Quinton Patton.
