Gov. Brownback to visit West High to talk about jobs program

Gov. Sam Brownback will visit a Wichita high school next week to meet with students participating in a program designed to improve graduation rates and academic achievement.

Brownback will visit West High School, 820 S. Osage, at 1 p.m. Monday, officials with the governor’s office announced Friday.

It is one of four stops the governor and Kansas Education Commissioner Diane DeBacker will make Monday to talk with students in the Jobs for America’s Graduates program.

The national program is designed to better prepare at-risk students to enter and succeed in the workplace. Selected students at 25 schools across the state will participate this year. The program is being administered by Communities in Schools, in partnership with the Kansas Department for Children and Families and the State Department of Education.
