He tried to run from police after pulling a gun from his waistband and then tossing it down Tuesday afternoon, but it didn’t take police long to find and arrest him.
A 21-year-old woman called 911 from a QuikTrip at 5720 E. Harry to report that her boyfriend had threatened her with a gun shortly after 3:30 p.m., Lt. Doug Nolte said. An officer investigating the report saw a man on Pineridge next to the woman’s home not far from the convenience store.
As he was driving past, the officer said, he saw the 28-year-old man pull out what turned out to be a 9mm handgun.
“For a brief minute, he thought he was going to be fired at,” Nolte said of the officer.
But the suspect dropped the gun and ran north on Pineridge. Other officers were called and he was found a short time later hiding in the back yard of a residence in the 1100 block of South Pineridge, which is southeast of Lincoln and Edgemoor. He was taken into custody.
An investigation revealed the gun in the suspect’s possession was stolen, a police document reported. The suspect’s girlfriend was treated for scratches she allegedly suffered in a fight with him. The tires of her car were slashed as well, according to the police report.
