Boy, 15, in critical condition after early morning joyride

A 15-year-old boy remains in critical condition at a local hospital with a serious head injury after a mishap while joyriding with his younger brother on Sunday, police said.

The boy’s 12-year-old brother was driving a relative’s vehicle shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of South Quentin, Lt. Doug Nolte said. That’s northeast of Hillside and Lincoln.

The boy was driving north and his older brother was riding on the trunk when at some point during the joyride the older boy was thrown off and struck his head on the pavement, Nolte said. His brother drove him to Via Christi Hospital on East Harry, where he was checked out and then transferred to the St. Francis campus.

The accident follow-up unit is investigating the incident.
