A 20-year-old man who brought a 12-year-old Wellington girl to Wichita to have sex with her was charged Tuesday with child rape in Sedgwick County District Court.
Shannon Lee Kimberlin of Wichita faces two counts of raping a child 13 or younger for sexual contact that reportedly occurred between him and the 12-year-old on July 4 and 5.
Authorities had said earlier this week that Kimberlin drove to Wellington to pick up the girl, then took her to Wichita to have sex after the pair had been communicating online.
He was arrested and booked into Sedgwick County Jail around 4 p.m. Saturday, jail records show. Wellington police were notified of the crimes after the girl returned home that morning, authorities have said; they then alerted Wichita police.

Kimberlin is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on July 23. He remained in jail Tuesday on $100,000 bond. He has requested court-appointed counsel.
Under Kansas law, any sexual intercourse with a child under age 14 is considered rape.
