Trial date set for former Wichita teacher facing gun charge

A Municipal Court trial date has been set for Aug. 19 for a former Wichita elementary teacher who is facing a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed handgun on school premises.

Daniel C. Nagel, 31, had the date set Monday during his preliminary hearing.

He was a teacher at White Elementary when he was arrested May 20 on suspicion of carrying a concealed gun into the school. He had been on administrative leave since the incident, but Wichita school district officials said last week that he was no longer employed by the district.
