Two people were arrested early Monday morning after a man they thought was stalking their neighbor turned out to be just what he said he was: an Eagle newspaper carrier.
The incident unfolded shortly before 2:30 a.m. Monday in southwest Wichita when the two confronted the carrier at 33rd South and Fern, Lt. Doug Nolte said, near Seneca and 31st Street South.
The 16-year-old boy and 19-year-old man threatened the carrier with a metal pipe and what turned out to be a BB gun, Nolte said. Accusing him of stalking their neighbor, they ordered him not to move while they called 911.
“He told them he was delivering newspapers,” Nolte said. “They did not believe him.”

But when officers arrived on the scene, they determined he was just who he said he was.
The teen and man were booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault because they threatened the victim with weapons, Nolte said.
