Sedgwick County to hold two remote household hazardous waste collection sites

Sedgwick County has planned two remote household hazardous waste collection sites, one Saturday at Beechcraft and one June 15 in Haysville.

The remote sites will be open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and both are open to the public. To go to the site at Beechcraft, enter off Central about a half mile east of Webb. Go to Lot E, Gate C6. The Haysville site has not been designated yet.

County staff from the Household Hazardous Waste Facility will assist at the events.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 801 Stilwell in Wichita is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. A news release from the county said it accepts items such as paint, batteries, used oil, gasoline, antifreeze, pesticides, herbicides, garden chemicals, household cleaners, fluorescent bulbs, propane and old medicine excepting controlled substances.

The facility offers a swap-and-shop where county residents can pick up paint, fertilizers and other items for free for use at home.
