The Wichita Community Foundation has received a $1.14 million gift from the estate of Edward and Betty Burns, the organization said in a news release.
The money will be put into an endowment under their names. Annual grants will be given to local nonprofit organizations that the donors named in their estate plan.
Ed Burns became president of Beech Aircraft after starting in the company’s sheet metal shop. After returning from service in the Navy during World War II, he met Betty Price, a war widow, and they married in 1949. Betty Burns died in 2005; Ed Burns in 2013.
