A former resident of Overland Park has been killed in Afghanistan.
2nd Lt. Justin Lee Sisson, a 2007 graduate of Blue Valley West High School, was killed Monday in Tsamkani, Afghanistan. His unit was attacked by a suicide vehicle, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. Also killed in the incident was Spc. Robert A. Pierce.
Sisson, 23, earned a degree in history from Florida State University. He completed Army Ranger School last fall and went to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
He will be buried at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery alongside both his grandfathers. A date for the service has not been set.

Sisson is survived by his parents, Kevin and Phyllis Sisson, and an older brother, Ryan Sisson.
“On behalf of the State of Kansas, Lt. Governor Colyer and I offer our deepest sympathies to 2nd Lt. Sisson’s family and friends,” Brownback said in a statement. “His service to and sacrifice for his country will not be forgotten. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends during their time of great loss.”
