Colorado boy, 9, who was hurt in fatal I-70 crash is improving

A 9-year-old Colorado boy who was hurt in a fiery crash that killed four of his family members on Tuesday near Ellsworth is improving, a hospital staff member said.

The boy was listed in fair condition Saturday afternoon at Wesley Medical Center, a hospital operator said. He had been flown to Wichita in critical condition earlier this week after undergoing treatment at a Salina hospital.

The boy survived the accident in which a Cadillac Escalade slammed into a disabled semi-trailer parked on Interstate 70. Killed were his grandparents, Kevin J. Dorrell, 54, and Debra M. Dorrell, 51; and his brothers, Justin Turner, 15, and Joe Turner, 11, all of Aurora, Colo.

The 9-year-old is also from Aurora.
