Meeting with stranger at house turns into robbery

Her Facebook name was Deahneh, and she agreed to come over to get better acquainted.

But when she arrived late Thursday afternoon at the 18-year-old man’s house in the 4700 block of East 11th, she told him she needed to go to the store to get something, Lt. Doug Nolte said. While she was gone, four strangers burst into the house southwest of 13th and Oliver and attacked him.

He was knocked unconscious, and when he came to a short time later he noticed the intruders had stolen some personal items.

He was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment of a head injury, Nolte said.

“She never returned from the store,” Nolte said of the 18-year-old woman who called herself Deahneh. “We do believe it was a set-up.”

The lesson from this incident is a reminder to “know who you’re dealing with” when it comes to meeting people you only know online, he said.

“Do your due diligence,” he said. “It’s probably not the wisest thing to have them come straight to your house.”
