First-degree murder charge was dismissed Thursday against one of four suspects in the Jan. 2 shooting death of a man who was shot twice in what Wichita police described as a robbery attempt and botched drug deal.
The case against Myron L. Peters, 19, was dropped as he was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in the death of 42-year-old Shawn Rhone. Prosecutors did not disclose the reason for the dismissal.
Three other suspects — Jerone H. Brown, 19; Milo J. Brown Jr., 21; and Shawn M. Brown, 20 — remain in jail while awaiting trial in Rhone’s death.
Shawn and Jerone Brown are charged in a separate case with first-degree murder in the death of Adji Tampone, who found shot to death in his home in the 700 block of South Rutan on Jan. 3. Police have not said whether the cases are related.
