Wichita State University has awarded the Linwood Sexton Scholarship to senior Eddie Sandoval of Solomon, the school said Thursday in a news release.
The scholarship, which provides tuition, books, fees and housing, was established in 2000 to honor Sexton, a member of the Shocker and Kansas sports halls of fame. Sexton was a longtime advocate for equal opportunity and social justice in Wichita.
Sandoval maintained a 4.0 grade point average while lettering three years in football, basketball and marching and jazz band. He also served as student vice president for the past three years. He plans to major in business finance at WSU. Solomon is in north-central Kansas.
The scholarship will be automatically renewed as long as Sandoval maintains satisfactory academic progress.
