Official: Sheriff’s detectives witness 51-cent charity theft

Sheriff’s detectives having lunch at a North Broadway restaurant Tuesday saw a woman take a charity’s coin collection board from the eatery counter, an official said.

The 37-year-old Wichita woman was arrested in the restaurant parking lot, in the 1100 block of North Broadway, around 2:15 p.m., sheriff’s Lt. David Mattingly said Wednesday. She was booked into jail for misdemeanor theft.

The coin board, holding 51 cents, belongs to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Mattingly said.
