Sheriff’s detectives seek ‘person of interest’ in run-over incident

Sedgwick County sheriff’s detectives want to speak with a “person of interest” in an incident involving a stolen vehicle where the owner was seriously injured when the suspect ran over her with her car, the Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s Office released new details about Friday’s incident, near 4900 S. Elmhurst. The victim, a 31-year-old Wichita woman, was taken with serious injuries to her midsection to Wesley Medical Center, sheriff’s Lt. David Mattingly said. She was released from the hospital Wednesday morning, Mattingly said. He gave this account:

About 3:30 p.m. Friday, the woman went to the area of 4900 S. Elmhurst, looking for her silver 2011 Dodge Avenger, stolen from Wichita on Thursday. She found the car, occupied by a 21-year-old female suspect, near 4900 S. Elmhurst, near 47th Street South and K-15. After the victim opened the driver’s door and said she wanted her car back, the driver put the car in gear, backed up and knocked the woman down. “The suspect then drove over the victim and fled the area,” a sheriff’s statement said. The vehicle still hasn’t been recovered, Mattingly said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call sheriff’s detectives at 316-660-5300 or call Crime Stoppers, 316-267-2111.
