Kansas City man dies after semi overturns near I-70 and I-435

A Kansas City, Mo., man died Tuesday after he failed to negotiate a turn onto eastbound I-70 and overturned the semi he was driving, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.

William R. Bass, 45, was thrown out of the driver’s-side window and trapped underneath the semi’s cab after it veered off the entrance ramp from northbound I-435 in Wyandotte County and hit an embankment, the highway patrol reported. Bass had apparently braked as he entered the ramp but lost control of the 2013 Freightliner semi about 8:35 a.m.

Bass was not wearing a seat belt, according to the crash report.
