Teenage boys rob west Wichita convenience store

The overnight rain helped police catch an armed teen who had just robbed a convenience store in west Wichita early Wednesday morning.

Two teens walked into the Valero at Central and Ridge Road just before 1:45 a.m., police Lt. Doug Nolte said. One of them displayed a handgun and demanded the money from the cash register.

The 31-year-old clerk complied, and the robbers left the store area on foot. Officers responding to the call began following footprints made more visible by just-fallen rain, Nolte said.

They found one of the suspected robbers hiding in the 700 block of Country Acres, next to an apartment complex. They found the money, gun and some clothing used in the robbery. The 17-year-old boy was booked into jail, Nolte said.

He gave officers the name of his accomplice, and police are looking for the 17-year-old boy, is about 5-feet-8 and was wearing a gray hoodie and a blue do-rag.
