Seven children have been placed in protective custody after their home was considered unfit to live Thursday, police said.
Staff at Linwood Elementary noticed “obvious signs of neglect” on two students Thursday morning and contacted authorities, Lt. Doug Nolte said. Officers who went to the children’s home found five other children there with their mother.
There was no electricity in the house, and there was trash and bugs crawling throughout. The children were removed from the house and the Exploited and Missing Child Unit was called in to investigate, Nolte said.
The children include boys ages 13, 11, 9 and 3 and girls ages 15, 7 and 5.
While there were no signs of abuse, Nolte said, it was obvious the children weren’t receiving proper care. No arrests have been made in the case.
