911 taking applications for Citizens Academy

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be on the dispatcher end of a 911 call, here’s your chance.

Sedgwick County 911 is taking applications for a new Citizens Academy, which gives residents a behind-the-scenes look at emergency communications. The next academy starts Sept. 15 and will be offered in three four-hour classes. Participants will listen in to live 911 calls and get an overview of how the emergency communications system works.

The first two sessions will be 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 15 and 22. Participants will schedule their last session individually.

For more information and to apply to the academy, contact Elora Randleas at, or visit Emergency Communications online at to download the application.
