Wichita police arrested a 28-year-old male early Sunday who allegedly fired a handgun at a car in Old Town.
Police officers were in the area of Second and Wabash monitoring crowds shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday as Old Town drinking establishments closed for the night. The officers heard several shots fired, according to Sgt. Scott Brunow, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department. The officers stopped a man as he was leaving the area and found a handgun in his jacket pocket. Witnesses identified the man as firing shots at a car occupied by two men – a 40-year-old and a 22-year old. Neither was hit by gunfire, but bullets did penetrate the car. Shell casings from the gun were also found in the area.
The man had prior felony convictions, Bruno said, and was booked for aggravated assault and possession of firearm by a felon.
