Witnesses in the 5100 bock of South Custer called police shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday after seeing a man choking a woman in the driveway of a residence.
When police officers arrived, they found a 30-year-old woman unresponsive on a couch in the residence. She was rushed to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis where, upon examination, medical officials determined her unresponsiveness was not because of injuries from trauma but of a blood alcohol content of 0.458. The 34-year-old man was booked for aggravated battery in connection with the choking of the woman. He was also charged with battery because his 40-year-old brother tried to stop the man from choking the woman and was bitten, according to Sgt. Scott Brunow, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.
Both the woman and the brother had visible injuries, Brunow said.
