Seven people were arrested on drug-related charges linked to activity at the Mark 8 motel on North Broadway, police said Friday.
An officer on patrol noticed a group of people acting suspiciously on North Broadway late Thursday night, and when he pulled in to investigate, they all ran into the Mark 8 at 1130 N. Broadway, Wichita police Lt. Joe Schroeder said.
Seven to eight people ran inside the motel when the officer arrived at 11:55 p.m., he said. All of the suspects went into Room 131.
When officers arrived to investigate, they found cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the room, Schroeder said. Police later said 1/4 of an ounce of cocaine was seized, along with 3/4 of an ounce of marijuana.

Five people were arrested in the room and two others were arrested elsewhere later, Schroeder said. The suspects range in age from 20 to 43 and include two women and five men.
Schroeder credited the quick actions of an alert officer for the arrest. Patrols have been paying special attention to that area of North Broadway because of a recent history of drug-related activity.
“We have many people who live in that area working with the police department, providing information” in an effort to eliminate criminal activity, Schroeder said.
