Golf tournament to benefit firefighter’s family

An amateur golf tournament to benefit the family of a local firefighter whose wife is battling cancer is signing up teams through Sept. 21.

At least nine four-person teams are needed for The Beyer Family Benefit Golf Tournament, scheduled for Oct. 9 at Cherry Oaks Golf Course, 1119 N. Main in Cheney. The cost is $300 per team, which includes prizes and an all-day hotdog buffet.

The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to the family of Mike Beyer, a Sedgwick County firefighter whose wife has breast cancer, tournament organizer David Richmond said. The couple has a toddler.

Entry fees and donations are accepted by check only and may be mailed to: The Beyer Family Benefit Fund, 618 S. Fern, Wichita, KS 67213. Entry forms are available at www.kansasfirefightercalendar.com.Individuals or companies may also sponsor a hole for $100; a golf cart sponsorship costs $50.
