Wichita police: Boy in protective custody after 2nd-degree burns

A 2-year-old boy has been placed in protective custody after being treated for second-degree burns on his buttocks, Wichita police said Tuesday.

Police are continuing to investigate, said police Lt. Jeff Weible, head of the Exploited and Missing Child Unit.

According to a police report, the boy’s father took him to a local hospital. He reportedly had been in custody of his mother when he suffered the injuries; the report didn’t say how the injuries occurred. Police interviewed his mother.
