Neighbor sees break-in, calls 911; police catch one of two men

Police caught a suspected burglar after a neighbor saw two men break into a house late Monday night in the 2200 block of East 20th Street, police said Tuesday.

The neighbor had looked out his window at about 11:55 p.m., saw the break-in, immediately called 911 and gave a good description of the men, police Lt. Doug Nolte said. When officers arrived, they saw two men come out of the house, and one of the men fled in a car that crashed soon afterward at 19th and Spruce. Police arrested the driver after he tried to run away, Nolte said.

The second man, who ran from the house, got away.

Police found property stolen from the house in the vehicle, Nolte said.
