Two female pedestrians hit by car in west Wichita; one suffered head injury

A 49-year-old woman suffered a serious head injury Monday night when she and another woman were struck by a vehicle turning at 135th Street West and Maple, police said Tuesday.

The 23-year-old driver apparently was distracted by a child in the back seat at the time of the accident, at about 9:40 p.m., police Lt. Doug Nolte said.

A 38-year-old woman who was walking with the 49-year-old woman suffered a minor leg injury.

The 49-year-old woman hit the vehicle’s windshield, Nolte said. Her head injury didn’t appear to be life-threatening, he said.
