Stolen vehicle set ablaze blamed for fire that burned 100 acres in Johnson County

A large grass fire that burned a farm field in southern Johnson County on Wednesday night started when someone set a stolen vehicle ablaze.

The vehicle was dumped at a field at West 183rd Street and State Line Road, according to Overland Park Fire Department. When it was set on fire, the flames ignited a grass fire that burned more than 100 acres.

In a tree line at the other end of the field, Overland Park fire and police investigators found a trailer and an ATV that someone had attempted to burn, too.

Crews from Johnson County Fire District No. 2, Overland Park, Lenexa, Leawood, Olathe, Johnson County Fire District No. 1, Johnson County Med-Act as well as from Missouri assisted in fighting the fire.
