Kansas House resolution supports soldier memorial in Wichita

The House unanimously approved a resolution supporting a memorial in Wichita for soldiers who died as a result of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and other fronts in the war on terror.

Rep. Mario Goico, R-Wichita, pushed the resolution and said that it is the first memorial to honor those who died in recent wars.

The memorial at Wichita’s Veterans Memorial Park, 339 N. Greenway, would have the names of Kansans in the armed forces who died engraved on granite walls.

Operation Freedom Memorial Foundation, Inc. has been raising money for the memorial. Their website shows they’re just shy of halfway to their goal — $233,434.
