A 33-year-old man remains in critical condition at a local hospital, a day after a two-vehicle collision in eastern Butler County.
Shane Baker was driving north on Southeast Satchel Creek Road just before 7:45 a.m. Monday when witnesses say he ran a stop sign at U.S. 54 and his Toyota pickup was hit by a westbound Ford F250 pulling a trailer loaded with bricks, Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet said.
The vehicles came to rest in the ditch on the northwest corner of the intersection, he said. Baker, who lives in the Rosalia area, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered a serious head injury. He was transported to Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado and then airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
The driver of the Ford truck, 31-year-old Norton Lundberg of Fort Scott, declined medical treatment at the scene. His two passengers were not injured, either.
