Two Wichita men among four hurt in Stafford County collision

Four people — including two men from Wichita who are members of the Dodge City Community College basketball team — were injured in a collision Thursday afternoon south of St. John in Stafford County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that 75-year-old Therean Towns of Palco was driving north on U.S. 281 when he failed to yield to traffic on U.S. 50 and was struck by an eastbound pickup at 4:30 p.m. about two miles south of St. John. Towns and his 76-year-old wife, Mary, were taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the pickup, 19-year-old Tyler Hosman, was taken to Stafford County Hospital. His passenger, 26-year-old Tony Phillips, was the most seriously injured. He was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, where he is in serious condition today.
