Police credit an alert neighbor with playing a key role in thwarting an attempted burglary Wednesday morning.
The woman was watching out her window when she saw two men kick out a back window of her neighbor’s house in the 1400 block of North Joann, northeast of 13th and West Street in west Wichita, shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday, Lt. Doug Nolte said.
The woman called 911 and gave a detailed description of the suspects. The pair began fleeing the house as officers arrived, Nolte said, and they were captured after a brief chase.
One of the suspects is 17 and the other 18, Nolte said. They had gone through the house and began gathering valuables such as jewelry and electronics that they planned to steal. But something spooked them before they carried anything away, he said.
The adult was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail, while the minor was taken to the juvenile detention center.
