Red Cross’ Wichita site increasing Saturday hours in April because of blood shortage

American Red Cross’ Central Plains Region is expanding its Saturday hours in April for taking blood donations at its service site, 707 N. Main.

The move is driven by a shortage of whole blood and platelets across the country, including the Central Plains Region, which serves about 100 Kansas hospitals, spokeswoman Jennifer Keller said.

Starting this Saturday, the site will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in April, an increase of two hours.

Hours on other days will remain the same. The Wichita site is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month.
