The Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County is raising awareness about child sexual abuse with a “One With Courage” campaign in April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Month. One With Courage is a national public awareness initiative.
The Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County and the Kansas Chapter of Children’s Advocacy Centers are working with the national campaign, which will include TV and radio public service announcements starting to air in April and print materials delivered to 10,000 Kansans.
One With Courage is centered around the courage it takes for child victims to come forward and talk about the abuse they’ve endured. It’s also about the courage it takes adults to talk, and to learn the signs and report abuse when it is suspected.
One With Courage also aims to highlight the role children’s advocacy centers play in providing a safe place for children to share their abuse experience with professionals. Children’s advocacy centers work with professionals in law enforcement, child protection services, prosecution, mental health, medical care and victim advocacy to provide comprehensive, evidence-supported services to child victims of abuse across Kansas and the U.S. For more information, visit www.onewithcourage.org.
