Newton has a new fire and EMS chief.
Deputy Chief Mark Willis will take over for Chief Gary Denny, who is retiring next month. Willis is a 27-year veteran of the department.
“I am honored and feel privileged to be part of such an outstanding organization,” Willis said. “I look forward to serving the community as fire/EMS chief.”
Willis has been deputy chief since 1996, just following the merger of the Newton Ambulance Department and Fire Department. As deputy chief, he coordinated and supervised the operations and training of 48 line personnel and has served in numerous leadership roles on the regional and state levels for emergency response.
Willis joined the Newton Ambulance Department in 1985 as an EMT paramedic.
