A 21-year-old Emporia man was flown in critical condition by a LifeWatch helicopter Saturday morning to Wesley Medical Center after he was shot twice in the back.

Wichita police said Sunday morning they were called to assist in the investigation. The man was attending a party in Emporia and told police that a man approached him carrying a silver handgun and shot him twice, striking him in the upper right back. The shooting happened at 4:30 a.m., according to Sgt. Bart Brunscheen, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.
