A rally to protest the shooting death of a Florida teenager will be held this afternoon in Wichita.
Trayvon Martin, 17, was killed on Feb. 26 following a scuffle with a self-appointed neighborhood watch captain in Sanford, a city of about 38,000 north of Orlando. News accounts say he was returning from a convenience store carrying only some Skittles and an iced tea.
George Zimmerman, 28, claims self-defense in the shooting.
The case has drawn national attention, and now Wichita residents want to be heard. Today’s rally will be held at 4:30 p.m. at 21st and Hillside.
