The nearly week-long warm up reaches a crescendo in the Wichita area today, when highs are expected to climb into the low 60s.
That’s still several degrees below the record for January 5, but folks who loathe cold weather aren’t likely to complain. Sunny skies and southwesterly winds pushing into the teens will help boost the temperature, forecasters say.
Overnight lows will bottom out in the mid-30s under mostly clear skies. Friday will see a sharp drop in temperatures to the upper 40s. That’s a drop of nearly 20 degrees, but it will merely pull temperatures to more seasonable levels for early January in the Sunflower State.
The weekend will see fair to partly cloudy skies and highs persisting in the mid- to upper 40s, forecasters say.
