The son of the Wyandotte County sheriff pleaded guilty today in Johnson County District Court for fleeing police and assaulting a Shawnee police officer.
Dustin Ash, 31, son of sheriff Don Ash, pleaded guilty to fleeing and eluding and to reckless aggravated battery for fleeing from a traffic stop and running his vehicle into a police cruiser on May 11.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors recommended a sentence of 14 months in prison and dropped four other charges, including driving while suspended.
The incident ended near 65th Street and Quivira Road, police said. Ash fled when a Shawnee officer tried to stop him for a traffic violation. Other officers put out spikes in his path, flattening his tires and Ash ran into a fence.
When officers approached, he backed his car into a police cruiser and later ran from his car and was captured, police said.
