CLAFLIN — A 20-year-old woman was killed early Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident about two miles southwest Claflin, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office reported.
At 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Rachael Diane Stueder, 20, of Claflin, was traveling northeast on K-156 when her white Pontiac G6 went left of the center line, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Pontiac struck the rear of a tractor-trailer driven by 51-year-old Robin L. Taylor of Wichita, who was traveling southwest on K-156 and swerved after noticing the car veering left of the center line.
Stueder, who was wearing a seat belt, was killed in the accident, and her passenger, 20-year-old Sarah Jean Hickel, was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the sheriff’s office reported. A hospital spokeswoman on Wednesday said Hickel was in good condition.
Taylor was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
Investigators do not know why Stueder’s vehicle went past the center line, Undersheriff Larry Holliday said Wednesday.
