32 train cars derail near Topeka

GRANTVILLE, Kan. (AP) – Workers are cleaning up after rail cars from two Union Pacific trains derailed near each other near Topeka.

Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says no injuries were reported when 32 railroad cars derailed about midnight Monday near Topeka between the Kansas River and Kansas 24 highway.

Davis says 22 coal-hauling cars from an eastbound train left the rails, causing 10 cars from a westbound train to derail.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
