A grant from the Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation will pay for a new gallery at Exploration Place that will feature “Big Mouth,” a 7-foot-tall exhibit that teaches about oral health and hygiene.
The $101,200 grant will launch a new health gallery, to be located in the museum’s current Grand Hall, officials said.
The new exhibit is “the perfect opportunity to reach all Kansans and help them understand the importance of good oral health,” said Jan Luth, president of the science center and children’s museum.
The Big Mouth interactive exhibit will feature anatomically correct elements of the human mouth, including teeth, gums and tongue. It is scheduled to open to the public Feb. 25, in conjunction with National Children’s Dental Health Month.
The grant also will pay for 10 education kits about oral health, which teachers can check out to use in their classrooms.
