The American Red Cross will deliver 500 care packages to hospitalized veterans on Saturday.
The packages, dubbed “Totes for Hope,” will be taken to the Robert J. Dole Medical Center at 10 a.m. The bags contain hygiene items such as soap, shampoo and razors that will be distributed to veterans in the hospital and homeless veterans throughout the year.
Local motorcycle groups such as the American Legion Riders will help deliver the totes, Red Cross spokesman James Williams said in a prepared statement. A short presentation at Red Cross offices at 1900 E. Douglas will show how the organization helps the military.
Participants will then travel in small groups east on Douglas and south on Edgemoor to the medical center at 5500 E. Kellogg Drive.
