The first measurable snow of the season arrived Tuesday night in Wichita. That’s nearly a month ahead of the average first snow for the city, according to the National Weather Service.
The average date for Wichita’s first snow is Dec. 3 – so you can see 2011 really jumped the gun. Then again, Wichita averages a little over an inch of snow in November – which means when it does snow this month it can pile up sometimes.
Salina’s average first snow arrives on Dec. 1, and Chanute’s first doesn’t come until Dec. 20.
