Fort Riley soldier from Texas killed in Iraq

A Texas soldier with the 1st Infantry Division based at Fort Riley has died from wounds suffered in an enemy attack in northern Iraq.

First Lt. Dustin Vincent, 25, of Mesquite, Texas, was on his first deployment, the Army said Friday.

Vincent was killed by small-arms fire while dismounted from his vehicle in northern Iraq's Kirkuk Province during a patrol on Thursday.

After joining the Army in 2009 as an artillery officer, Vincent was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

No other casualties were reported from the incident.
