Teenage boy seriously hurt in hit-and-run in south Wichita

WICHITA — Police are looking for the driver of a white car that struck a 15-year-old boy on a south Wichita street Wednesday night. The boy is in the intensive care unit of Wesley Medical Center with a head injury.

A passerby found the boy lying next to the curb on 31st Street South near Seneca at about 7:30 p.m., Lt. Joe Schroeder said. He had no memory of what had happened.

He was taken to Wesley, and while he was being treated, his memory of the incident began to return. Along with an internal head injury, he suffered facial bruises and abrasions.

Hospital officials then contacted police, Schroeder said, and doctors said the boy's injuries were consistent with being hit by a car. He remembered seeing a white car moments before he was hit.

He was crossing the street to go to the Dillons store when he was hit, Schroeder said.

Anyone who saw the incident should call the accident follow up unit at 316-268-4150.
