Police stop vehicle carrying scrap metal

WICHITA — A concerned citizen who called 911 Saturday morning and told authorities someone was taking scrap metal from a business in the area of 17th and Wabash is credited by Wichita Police as helping them solve a case.

The phone call at 4 a.m. helped police arrest two men, according to Sgt. Jesse Boomer, a spokesman with the Wichita Police Department. The witness provided surveillance of the vehicle to police.

When Wichita officers stopped the vehicle in the 800 block of North Amidon, Boomer said, "they discovered the bed weighted down by a large amount of scrap metal."

They also discovered a fence at Weaver Manufacturing in the 1000 block of East 17th had been cut and $8,000 worth of scrap metal missing.
