Teenage girl apparent target of gunshots, police say

WICHITA — Someone walked up to a house in northeast Wichita early this morning and fired three shots at the bedroom of a 14-year-old girl, police said.

The shooting was reported just after midnight in the 1300 block of North Minneapolis by a 53-year-old woman who heard gunshots in the front yard, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

When she checked for damage, she found that gunshots had penetrated the wall outside her daughter's bedroom and lodged in the inner wall.

The girl slept through the incident and didn't hear anything, Nolte said. She wasn't injured.

Police have no information indicating why she was targeted, Nolte said. Three shell casings were found near the front yard, suggesting someone walked toward the house, fired the shots and then left, he said.
