WICHITA— A woman who police say suffered severe head injuries Thursday night in a head-on collision with a truck is still listed in critical condition.
The driver of the truck, A 37-year-old man, was also rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. He has been upgraded to fair condition. His passenger, a 4-year-old boy, is listed in fair condition today, a source at a local hospital said.
The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection near Maple Street and St. Clair.
The woman, 22, had been drinking, Lt. Doug Nolte said. After a fight with her boyfriend, she sped at 60 to 80 mph westbound along Maple Street in a Dodge Stratus. She lost control of the car after hitting elevated railroad tracks, colliding head-on with a GMC truck pulling a boat, Nolte said.
The woman was also taken to a local hospital in critical condition, Nolte said, where she underwent surgery.
Dispatchers said a fourth victim was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle, but Nolte said he was not aware of a fourth person injured.
