Scattered storms, some of them strong, are possible in the area today, forecasters say.
Winds of up to 50 miles an hour and hail as large as nickels are the primary threats from any storms that develop, according to the National Weather Service. Skies will be partly sunny and temperatures should top out in the mid-90s. Winds will be out of the southeast in the low teens.
Overnight lows will settle into the upper 70s, and then a brief period of hot weather settles in. Forecasters say temperatures this weekend will climb into the upper 90s on Saturday and then reach the century mark Sunday and Monday.
